Conservatives' March on Washington
– Tens of thousands of people marched to the U.S. Capitol today, carrying signs with slogans such as “Obamacare makes me sick.” According to the D.C. Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency, the line of protesters completely filled Pennsylvania Avenue for blocks, all the way to the capitol.
People were chanting “enough, enough” and “We the People.” Others yelled “You lie, you lie!” and “Pelosi has to go,” referring to California congresswoman Nancy Pelosi. Others are waving U.S. flags and holding signs reading “Go Green Recycle Congress” and “I’m Not Your ATM.” Some men dressed in colonial costumes.
FreedomWorks Foundation, a conservative organization led by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, organized several groups from across the country for the Saturday event, dubbed a “March on Washington.” Other sponsors of the rally included the Heartland Institute, Americans for Tax Reform and the Ayn Rand Center for Individuals Rights.
Many protesters said they paid their own way to the event — an ethic they believe should be applied to the government. They say unchecked spending on things like a government-run health insurance option could increase inflation and lead to economic ruin.
The White House on Friday claimed it was unaware of the planned rally. “I don’t know who the group is,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters with a shrug.
Can we spell A.R.R.O.G.A.N.T. and O.U.T. O.F. T.O.U.C.H.?
“Obama on Wednesdays” – I’ve been compiling Rasmussen’s Presidential Approval Ratings by the week. Rasmussen polls daily except for holidays. I find that a little more information than I can handle, so I just go with Wednesdays. The “100” and “200” day points are in the general vicinity of that Wednesday, not necessarily that actual day.
Note: Rasmussen’s numbers tend to be different from other presidential approval polls because Rasmussen polls Likely Voters, not American Adults or Registered Voters. In general, Rasmussen’s numbers for Obama have been more negative, possibly reflecting the fact that the people who voted for Obama in the largest proportions were from demographics that traditionally do not vote reliably.
