After 11 days in office, President Barack Hussein Obama was nominated for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. A few days ago, the five Norwegians who make up the committee voted to give it to him. In choosing to give this year’s Nobel Peace Prize to Barack Obama, they also voted not to give it to any of the other candidates who were up for the award … people who, you know, had actually put themselves out there, shed some blood, sweat and tears in a dangerous venue to better people’s lives in some important and meaningful way. Nope. Rather than honor an embattled opposition leader, a women’s right’s activist, or a dissident who has faced imprisonment and torture to promote peace, the Nobel committee decided to “contribute a little bit to enhance what [Obama] is trying to do.” An award for what someone is TRYING to do? Wow. And here I thought awards were all about acknowledging an honest-to-God ACCOMPLISHMENT. Even those rinky dinky fake “participation” trophies only get passed out to the kids who actually showed up all season.

ATTACHED: Knock Knock.

“Excuse me, but before you get a Peace Prize don’t you have to do something good that actually brings some air of peace on earth and good will toward man, like Jesus or Gandhi or Colonel Sanders did? What’s that, you say? You don’t have to accomplish jack squat? You mean you don’t, in fact, have to cure any earthly ills? You say Al Gore got a Nobel Prize, as did Yasser Arafat and Jimmy Carter? … I hear Hitler and Mussolini were actually up for one of your Peace Prizes at one time. Silly, literal me.” ~Doug Giles

ATTACHED: Biggest achievement so far.

Even Obama’s Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had to acknowledge that Obama has accomplished nothing to merit the prize. Should we be surprised? Obama himself said he was too inexperienced to run for president in 2008. Both his Vice President AND his Secretary of State concurred.

ATTACHED: Obama, Biden and Clinton on Obama’s inexperience.

“Obama’s failure to produce meaningful Change is the elephant in the room and the Nobel Prize committee has painted that elephant in hot-pink and gold-flake and thrown a ten thousand watt spotlight on it.” ~Allahpundit

ATTACHED: His O-liness

Ooh, remember the big Styrofoam columns they used as stage props behind Obama when he accepted the nomination at the 2008 Democratic National Convention? Styrofoam for stone. Stage props to evoke a timeless monument. Wow, doesn’t that just speak volumes?

ATTACHED: Barack-opolis.

VIDEO: Public Seems Skeptical of Obama Nobel Win [1:26] http://www.youtube.com/v/0YnDXESGdH8

The Nobel — a now meaningless prize – has spawned a bonanza of excellent political cartoons. One thing that struck me was how FAST they appeared. I love political cartoons and track them pretty closely. Usually, there is a three or four day lag between an event and the lampooning, which makes sense. Artists need time to generate a good visual image. But the Obama Nobel Peace Prize cartoons hit the web within HOURS of the committee’s announcement. I was shocked, but then I thought … hey, the humor is so slap-my-face obvious, they didn’t have to work at it to find a joke.

ATTACHED: A Swell Prize in Every Box! A Cheapened Prize in Every Box! AND (my personal fave cuz I LOVE TOTUS) Congratulations, TOTUS! The prize has also spawned many suggestions for other prizes President Obama deserves to win like: The Most Awesome Teleprompter Reader Ever, Ever, Ever Award; The Hide Your Cigarettes From Your Kids Award; The Whiz on Your Nation While You’re Abroad Award; The Nobel Prize for Economics for destroying an economy faster than any other leader in recent history; The Cy Young Award for throwing the first pitch at the 2009 All Star Game that almost reached home plate; The Tour de France for riding his mountain bike around Martha’s Vineyard without a helmet; The Nobel Prize for Fiction (shared with William Ayers) for inventing a compelling character named Barack Obama in Dreams From My Father who bears no resemblance to the man the world has come to know; The Emmy Award for Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for Obama’s hysterical performance on the creepy David Letterman’s show; The Al Gore Award for promoting Green technologies and Cap and Trade while generating more carbon dioxide with Air Force One than any other President in their first 10 months in office; The BET Humanitarian Award for intervening in the racial profiling of the Cambridge, MA, Police Department. Oh, wait, there was no racial profiling by the police, no matter, give the President the award anyway. It will inspire him to do more in the future. The 2016 Olympics Gold Medal for a new event created just for him: The Foot In Mouth race; The Bill Clinton “Is is” Big Lie Award for saying that illegal immigrants would not be covered under Obamacare, and then painting Joe Wilson out to be a liar when he shouted “You lie.”

ATTACHED: The New Miss Universe AND He wants a Pulitzer too.

All this talk about how empty Obama’s record has been apparently got under the Nobel committee’s skin. Or at least 3/5th of it. One of them refused to answer the question and the other refused to answer the phone. But committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland told the AP on Tuesday, “We simply disagree that he has done nothing. He got the prize for what he has done.” And what might that be? Well, he dumped a Bush-era proposal for an anti-missile shield in Europe which, according to Jagland, “contributed to — I wouldn’t say a safer world — but a world with less tension.”

ATTACHED: Potential sites for the Obama Prez Library AND Too much on his plate.

Jagland’s remarks evoked some fantastic comments at one blog site, which I’ve organized below with the serious ones first and the funny ones after.

bloggless – If you quit trying to make the prize mean what you wish it meant, Obama is a good fit. He is at least as Anti-American as Arafat, and more leftist than Carter.

CWforFreedom – Ask the eastern European nations or the skittish Arab nations if they feel less tension knowing that the missile shield is gone and that Iran won’t be seriously confronted over their nukes.

Bishop – So constructing technology to stop missiles from killing people is warlike, but tearing down that technology so that those missiles hit their target and kill millions is peaceful? The only people feeling less tense are Iran and North Korea. North Korea feels so damn relaxed that they just shot some more missiles the other day. Wait till Iran detonates its nuke.

NeoKong – A little “peace” today for what? Kind of like being penny-wise and pound-foolish. Paybacks gonna suck.

JellyToast – Trying to hide the problem ‘hoping’ it will go away doesn’t work … like Britain and France found out in the 30’s. It morphs into a bigger problem.

beachgirlusa – If Barack Obama had even the slightest mote of decency or integrity, or the smallest instinct toward the greatness that his office deserves, he would firmly reject the Nobel Peace prize without delay. Sadly, he is quite simply too small a man for such things.

Dhuka – “Jagland singled out Obama’s efforts to heal the divide between the West and the Muslim world.” Translation: They know he is anti-Israel and anti-Semitic. That is why these modern day Nazis who sympathize with Muslims who want to wipe out Israel and all Jews gave him the award.

SouthernGent – Where did all of these really stupid people come from all of a sudden? I’ve never seen such obvious idiocy at such high levels. There was silliness before, but this is a total psychotic break.

Key West Reader – Jagland is known in Norway to be a complete idiot. Probably one of the most ridiculed politicians we have ever had. I am ashamed to be from the same country as this moron.

29Victor – How much less tense is the Muslim world when a Sunni/Shia nuclear arms race is about to break out in the ME?

Aquateen Hungerforce – Nonsense, 29Victor! Didn’t you see Obama’s speech in Cairo? A general arms race in the Middle East is merely a “distraction.”

ParisParamus – “A world with less tension”? What world does he live in? He must be feeling pretty good about those NoKo missile tests, Iran’s nukes and terrorist operations in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This is the time the entire world needs a cowboy in the WH not some vacuous metrosexual Chauncey Gardiner.

ATTACHED: Who is Chauncey Gardiner (I had to look it up and was so struck by the apropos reference that I made y’all a cheat sheet. Aren’t I just too sweet?!)

Dhuka – True peace is always won, never negotiated.

Jaibones - Peace is not created or protected by pacifists.

Scrappy – This will never sink in with some people, because it is hard to sink anything in shallowness. I wish the pacifists would sometimes try to convince some of our foes to not fight instead of just us. I’d personally buy plane fare for some of them to go to Iran or North Korea and try to talk their pacifism crap there.

MadisonConservative – Dude the beer summit was epic. You guys know Obama deserves the Nobel. Just admit it.

Mojave Mark – It was Sgt. Crowley who proposed the beer summit. Crowley was the actor, and Gates and Obama the reactors. Therefore, the Prize should go to Sgt. James Crowley for reducing the racial tensions raised by Obama and Gates. HornetSting – He should get an award from the American Lung Association. I think he’s mentioned that he’d like to stop smoking at some point.

progressoverpeace – He appeared on 5 talk shows in just one Sunday. He should get a daytime Emmy award.

bloggless – What he really deserves is an Oscar.

Ronnie – I bet he wins a Pulitzer for attempting to expose media bias at FOX News.

battleoflepanto1571 – Has President Obama accomplished something on the world stage to deserve this award? Of course he has; he’s won the Nobel Prize. This is the same logic that helped get him elected.

29Victor — Has President Obama accomplished something on the world stage to deserve this award? Yes, he had Barackopolis designed for the display of his uh, um … at a loss for what the Barackopolis Greek Styrofoam columns were all about. What “event” was that, again? I forget.

Daggett – Obama’s done some stuff? Well, so have I. Why, just this morning, I tied my shoes by myself. And found my way to the ladies’ room – three times!!! That ought to count for something, right? Now, where’s my Nobel Prize?

obladioblada – Daggett, there’s simply no comparison here. Obama has produced far more than you can with three trips to the restroom.

jhffmn – I believe China should freely give up Tibet. There, now I submit myself for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize.

Socratease - Is there a prize for most stylish mom jeans?

Key West Reader – Yes, there is now. It is called the Nobel Peace Prize.

MikeA – The Nobel Sedative Prize.

bloggless – I had a massage last week and I am now much less tense. Hey Norway, how about a Nobel peace prize for Greta, the masseuse?

MikeA – I wonder if that is what he says to Michelle? “Baby, I want to reduce some tension … give me a prize!”

txag92 – A fart can reduce tensions.

kingsjester – So the next Nobel PP should go to Taco Bell.

Key West Reader – He won for his support of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act in the Illinois Senate. Oh, wait he was the only State Senator to vote against that.

Aquateen Hungerforce – When he falls, it’s not going to be pretty. I hope it’s to Palin. She makes him squirm like no other.

Lew – I just got an email saying he won the Heisman Trophy after watching a college football game.

wildcat84 – I nominate him to be president of the EU. Anything to get this clown out of town is fine with me.
—————
